Did you know the sun's UV radiation is higher when reflecting off of snow and water? This reflection can cause short- and long-term eye conditions. Sunwear is an all-year-round item. That's because the dangers the sun can impact on the eyes does not disappear. Whether the sun is reflecting off snow or water, the sun is dangerous for your eyes health.

UVA Rays are absorbed within the lens of the eye. There are no documented cases of disorders caused by UVA, but research is constantly being done to find out the exact effects on our eyes.

UVB Rays are the same ones that can cause a sunburn on skin. Research has linked daily exposure to UVB radiation over a period of years leads to a gradual clouding of the lenses of the eyes, commonly known as cataracts. Not only can UVB rays damage exposed eyes during the summer months, they can also cause temporary blindness in the cold, wind and snow, a condition called photokeratitis.

To protect your eyes from these rays, you should invest in a pair of glasses that provide at least 98% protection from harmful effects of UVA/UVB rays. Sunglass lenses can range from poor to excellent UV protections, so it's important to know we only carry sunwear that provides the best protection from the sun.

To protect from glare, polarized lenses block light reflected from surfaces like a flat road or smooth water. If you are involved in water sports, skiing, golfing, biking, or spend a lot of time driving, polarized lenses can be very helpful in reducing glare and helping you see more clearly.

Children are not immune to these rays; in fact, children under the age of 20 are the most susceptible to the damaging effects of UV rays. It’s never too early to fit them with sunglasses. Impact resistant frames, a hard case and cords can help them keep there sunglasses from getting scratched, broken, or lost.

A great pair of sunglass lenses can help you see clearer than the drugstore quality lenses. Also, a great pair of sunglass lenses offers better protection from the sun's harmful rays. Remember, we are a medical office, and are concerned about you health. Come in today and select a great pair of sunglasses, and ask if you qualify for 20% off the frame!
